How to Read the Results

Rub your item on the testing stone to leave a clear metal streak, then apply one drop of the appropriate solution (silver or 14K gold):

• For silver: Use the silver solution and read the reaction using your silver color and fading guide (fine, sterling, lower-grade, or not silver).

• For 14K gold: Use the 14K solution and watch how the streak reacts compared to a known 14K sample to confirm or rule out 14K.

• Weak, fast-fading, or off-color reactions can indicate lower purity, plating, or base metal.

When you are finished, apply the neutralizer to the tested area on the stone to safely deactivate any remaining acid before rinsing.

Does it work on plated items?
Surface tests can read plating as solid metal. For suspected plated items, file a small notch to expose the base metal and test that streak.

How do I clean the testing stone?
After neutralizing any remaining acid with the neutralizer, rinse with water and wipe with a cloth between tests. The stone is reusable thousands of times.

How many tests per bottle?
